INTRODUCTION

In October 2015, the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced grants worth US$1.2 million through its Environmental Justice Collaborative Problem-Solving Model (EJCPS Model) to local community-based organizations seeking to address environmental and/or public health concerns in their communities. The Model developed in 2004 by the Office of Environmental Justice (OEJ) of the EPA was a systematic, community-based approach that addressed local environmental and public health issues collaboratively with various stakeholders such as communities, industry, academic institutions, and others. Since the inception of the model, EPA had provided funding to 62 projects to help communities understand and address environmental problems and risks and identify opportunities and assets for productive change in the community.
